It's Arrived

My new flute arrived from Second Voice Flutes, an F# made from English Lime. It sounds really nice and looks amazing. Hat off to David for such a wonderful creation.

About to try out some software which should make it easier to transcribe music from audio and video. Currently looking at Transcribe! But haven't have time to have a good look yet. UPDATE: have transcribed two of three pieces of music/video and this software has definitely saved me a lot of time and enabled me to do something I would have struggled to do without it.

So much, so quickly

So, I haven't updated this blog in a while and a fair amount has happened since the last lonely posts. Flute update I now have five flutes - low D drone by Kuzin Bruce, low A# bamboo by NZT Designs, mid C Anasazi pueblo by Earth tone Flutes, mid A by Charles Little leaf and a mid A# PVC aroura flute which I made myself by following the instruction kindly provided by Clint Goss. Mostly I'm now managing to improvise at a basic level and keep in time. Went to the flute circle on Sunday and played along with everyone on a few of the flutes. Sounded real nice. Music update Been going to music lessons to learn the basics and general music (not instrument specific). I think I now finally understand timing and can read 'roughly' the score and play along slowly.

Your Native American Name Is: Ohanko Kosumi

According to this site, "Your name means: Restless One who Fishes for Salmon with Spear"

What's in the title

I got a wonderful book for Christmas called "The Native American Flute - Understanding The Gift" by John Vames. The first thing that struck me from the accompanying cd was when John said "Three Holes Covered" and it just stuck.

It's a very good book and has got me much further than I would have got without it.

Excercises on Cedar Mesa Site

Was sent a link by Geoffrey from the flute portal as Scott has finger charts and articles about the Anasazi flutes. However, I found more information about writing music so I had a go and this scribble is what came out, which is exactly the kind of thing I want to throw into my music scrap book :D
